New Start

In the late 2000’s my wife and I both lost our parents, which made us consider our future and plan to enjoy the rest of our lives. Both of us have worked full time since leaving school, and although it is over 10 years away we were looking for something totally different to do in our retirement.

During the 1980’s and 90’s we travelled a lot due to me racing sportscars across the UK and Europe. We also attended Grand prix and Sportscar races in France on a regular basis. Particularly the famous 24 hour race at Le Mans.

After a particually bad year in 2008 we arranged to spend the week between Christmas and New year in Normandy. During the trip we decided to look at property in the area.

After studying maps and guides we decided upon the Basse-Normandie region. One of the main reasons was because of the transport links from the UK. Four ferry ports and a couple of airports served by low cost carriers all easily accessed by good road networks.

After viewing a dozen or so properties we fell in love with the house we now own. It had only been on the market for a very short time, we made an offer and it was excepted on New Years eve just as we were leaving Cherbourg onboard the Brittany Ferries vessel Barfleur towards Poole.     More…….
